This will be my Golden Decade.
“The average man reaches the period of his greatest capacity to create between forty and sixty. The years between forty and fifty are as a rule the most fruitful. Man should approach this age, not with fear and trembling, but with hope and eager anticipation.” Napoleon Hill in Think and Grow Rich
For as long as I can remember I’ve always written down my goals for the coming year on my birthday. I review them every once in a while, during the year to make sure I’m on track and sometimes I update them on New Year’s Day.
Back in 2005 leading up to my birthday I decided I needed to change things in my life. I really needed to put together a plan for my future. Who did I want to be? I needed to come up with a long-term plan and a vision for the lifestyle that I wanted to live… the person I wanted to be. I called it the “Experience”. It began with the first impression that I wanted to leave with people who I met. But it really became my overall vision of me. That project began 10 years ago and looking back at my goals then, I’ve largely been successful.
I’ve stepped away from blogging regularly over the last few years, but as I approach my 50’s I’m now going through the same process. My 20’s were about discovering myself. The 30’s were about establishing myself … my 40’s and 50’s will be about achieving great success in all aspects of my life and establishing generational wealth.
The goals for this Golden Decade are:
- Pay attention to health – health is wealth – have regular checkups, watch my weight and give up unhealthy habits
- Maintain clear goals – review my progress monthly and revisit my goals often
- Spend time with family – family is the foundation on which I’ll build an empire. Take care of home first and you’ll have the confidence required to face the world
- Get involved in the community – broaden my network and enrich my life and the lives of others
You are responsible for your life. You are not predestined to be rich or poor. Either is a choice that only you can choose for yourself. With the right attitude your 40’s can be an enriching and invigorating time.
